This all-inclusive 3-day Heritage Train adventure will depart Toowoomba on Friday morning 7:30 am and arrive back in Toowoomba on Sunday, at approximately 8.00pm. The ticket price is all inclusive (train travel, accommodation in a convenient 3.5 – 4 star venue, plus transfers, and meals).

Drinks with snacks purchased at the train café , merchandise purchases ,wine tastings and novelty purchases along the way are at your own expense.

Arrive at Toowoomba Railway Station Railway Street Toowoomba QLD. Parking is available.$8 per day (Wilsons Parking – Toowoomba Bus Interchange, 27 Neil Street Toowoomba 1800 727 546). Ensure your luggage is labelled with your name and mobile phone number. You will be allocated a railway carriage and seat. Toilets are available on the platform.

DAY 1

0700 – Arrive at Toowoomba Statjon

0730 – depart Toowoomba Railway Station

Travel through the farmlands of the Darling Downs see sorghum crops – used for ethanol and livestock, fodder, wheat and dairy belt that also produces barley, oats, rye, corn (Maize), and millet along with sheep, poultry, pigs, and beef cattle are the principal livestock raised on the Downs.

0930 – Arrive at Clifton Railway Station – morning tea

1000 – Depart Clifton

1130 to 1230 – Lunch at Warwick Station

1200 to 1330 – Tour the Warwick Rail Precinct and Museum adjacent the station

1300 – Depart Warwick

After easing into the uphill sections between Warwick (454.5m/1,492ft), and Silverwood (583m/1,913ft), we leave civilisation and wind-up past sandstone ruins of Spring Creek and Mineral Creek bridges where a short stop will be made to check the locomotive before passing through the two hand-built tunnels on the line.

After this brief pause, it’s time to enjoy the spectacular views as we climb the Silverwood range to Dalveen after which we pass The Summit (925m/3,035ft), the highest QR station. Since leaving Warwick, we have risen 470m (1,543 ft) in the space of 51.5km (32 miles). After passing The Summit we coast downhill into Stanthorpe.

1545 to 1615– Stanthorpe Railway Station – afternoon tea on the station platform

1615 – Bus to Accommodation

1800 – – Bus to Dinner venue at a Granite Belt Restaurant.

2000 – Bus back to Accommodation where required

DAY 2

0700 – 0800 – Bus pickup. Breakfast in Stanthorpe

0830 – Visit the Snowflakes in July Festival at the Stanthorpe Showgrounds

1200 – Board our bus for Lunch in Stanthorpe at a selected venue.

1430 – Travel through the Girraween National Park an area of the Granite Belt in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia reserved as a unique National Park. Girraween is known for its spectacular rock formations, flowers, dramatic landscapes and unique wildlife. …

Enjoy Afternoon tea in Girraween National Park whilst enjoying spectacular views of the park or take a stroll through the marvels of this park with its boulders, fauna, and flora

1600 – Enjoy a drive through the township of Stanthorpe

  • view beautiful heritage hotels
  • see the Post Office which has been restored to its original appearance
  • See the interesting street scape with its interesting stores
  • See the garden and water area at the end of the main street

1700 – Bus to Accommodation

1800 – Dinner at a local restaurant

1930 – Bus back to Accommodation for a good nights rest

0700 – Bus pickup.

0730 – 0830 – Breakfast in Stanthorpe

0845 – Bus tour of attractions in the area on the way to Amiens

Visit Amiens and the museum

  • see the carriage that Prince Edward Later King Edward V111 and then Duke of Windsor travelled in when the railway line was opened
  • Walk around the settlement established after World War 1 which was one of the Pikedale soldier settlements established in the Granite Belt Area

1100 – 1200 – Early alfresco lunch on the Stanthorpe Station Platform.

1200 – Depart Stanthorpe

1430 – Train arrives at Warwick. we have a short stop here whilst the train is serviced and a crew change. – Devonshire tea will be served on the Warwick to Clifton journey

1600 – Train departs for Toowoomba from Clifton

1615 Light dinner to be served on the train

After morning tea on Stanthorpe Railway Station (included in the price) we depart for Ballandean. View wineries, highland country fauna and flora, orchards and hugh boulders.

Arrive at Ballandean and take a 15minute bus ride to the Wallangarra Railway Station. Lunch on the platform (included in the price) the depart by bus for a tour of the Girraween National Park (included in the price) ending at the Stanthorpe Railway Station.

We then depart Stanthorpe by train making our way back down the range with a setting sun before we arrive back in Warwick around 6.00pm.

Hop on the Wheatvale Heritage Train for a fun-filled day with young ones, exploring history and creating precious family memories!

1115 Please arrive at the Inglewood Railway Station, QLD. Free parking is available. Show your printed ticket upon arrival. You will be allocated a railway carriage and seat. Toilets are available on the platform. Please ensure all your luggage is labelled with your name and mobile phone number.

1500 Arrive Goondiwindi Railway Station.

0800 Train will depart Goondiwindi for Inglewood.

1100 Arrive at Inglewood Railway Station. A local volunteer group will provide a lunch with coffee and tea. (included in your ticket).

DAY 3

0700 – Bus pickup.

0730 – 0830 – Breakfast in Stanthorpe

0845 – Bus tour of attractions in the area on the way to Amiens

Visit Amiens and the museum

  • see the carriage that Prince Edward Later King Edward V111 and then Duke of Windsor travelled in when the railway line was opened
  • Walk around the settlement established after World War 1 which was one of the Pikedale soldier settlements established in the Granite Belt Area

1100 – 1200 – Early alfresco lunch on the Stanthorpe Station Platform.

1200 – Depart Stanthorpe

1430 – Train arrives at Warwick. we have a short stop here whilst the train is serviced and a crew change. – Devonshire tea will be served on the Warwick to Clifton journey

1600 – Train departs for Toowoomba from Clifton

1615 Light dinner to be served on the train

1930 – Train arrives at Toowoomba

Warwick to Stanthorpe – Bus Winery Tours and Lunch

Depart Warwick Station at 08:00am for a leisurely heritage train trip to Stanthorpe, arriving at 10:15am.

After easing into the uphill sections between Warwick (1,492ft), and Silverwood (1,913ft), we leave civilisation and wind up past sandstone ruins of Spring and Mineral Creek bridges before a short stop to check the locomotive before passing through the two tunnels on the line.

After this brief pause, it’s time to enjoy the spectacular views as we climb the Silverwood range to Dalveen where we pass The Summit (3,035ft), the highest QR station. Since leaving Warwick, we have risen 1,543 feet in the space of 32 miles. After passing The Summit we coast down into Stanthorpe for a 30 minute stop.

From here your coach transfer will be waiting to take you on a tour of local wineries with lunch provided at a country restaurant. The wineries visited vary throughout the year. Note: some wineries may charge a tasting fee. This is usually refunded on purchase of their product. This is not included in your ticket price.

The coach will return in time for a train departure from Stanthorpe Station at 3:30pm for a trip back down to Warwick as the sun sets, arriving at approximately 6:30pm.

Lunch is included as a part of the winery tour package.

Please plan to arrive at the Warwick Railway Station, Brosnan Cres, Warwick at least 30 minutes before departure.

Relevant Travel Details:

  • A kiosk selling tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages and snacks is available on the train. Although we have eftpos available, we do pass through some black spots. Please have cash available for this if necessary. We also have raffle tickets on the train, cash sale only.

We make every endeavor to ensure that the tour will operate as advertised. Unfortunately, this may not always be possible owing to unforeseen circumstances such as total fire bans or mechanical failures. In such events we reserve the right to make whatever changes are necessary, without compensation. However, any changes made will only be after we have exhausted all reasonable efforts to provide the tour as advertised.

  • Where steam is unavailable, SDSR will replace it with the Heritage Diesel Locomotive.
  • Some services may cancel at short notice. You will be notified by email and refunded automatically (in most cases).

If you would like to sit in a carriage with friends that have booked tickets separately from you, email events@downsexplorer.org.au at least a week prior to your tour to let us know the name the tickets were booked in, trip details and order number. If you do not let us know, you may be seated in separate carriages.

1230 – Loco detaches from train and runs around ready to return to Stanthorpe (Please note passengers can get off the train at Ballandean)

1300 – Train begins journey back to Stanthorpe

1430 – Train arrives back at Stanthorpe Station

Every Child will receive free coloured crayons and activity pack.
