Depart Warwick Station at 08:00am for a leisurely heritage train trip to Stanthorpe, arriving at 10:20am.

After easing into the uphill sections between Warwick (1,492ft), and Silverwood (1,913ft), we leave civilisation and wind up past sandstone ruins of Spring and Mineral Creek bridges before a short stop to check the locomotive before passing through the two tunnels on the line.

After this brief pause, it’s time to enjoy the spectacular views as we climb the Silverwood range to Dalveen where we pass The Summit (3,035ft), the highest QR station. Since leaving Warwick, we have risen 1,543 feet in the space of 32 miles. After passing The Summit we coast down into Stanthorpe for a 30 minute stop.

From here your coach transfer will be waiting to take you on a tour of local wineries with lunch provided at a country restaurant. The wineries visited vary throughout the year. Note: some wineries may charge a tasting fee. This is usually refunded on purchase of their product. This is not included in your ticket price.

The coach will return in time for a train departure from Stanthorpe Station at 3:30pm for a trip back down to Warwick as the sun sets, arriving at approximately 6:30pm.

Lunch is included as a part of the winery tour package.

Plenty of free parking at the Warwick Railway Station.

Our train will depart the bustling town of Warwick which is the centre of the Darling Downs with its sandstone buildings, Morgan Park race track, Polocrosse, and home to the Jumpers and Jazz festival

On our way we will travel through some of the best farmland cultivating, Sorghum crops, sunflower fields and many more. This along with livestock farms of both Horse and cows creates a picturesque backdrop looking towards part of the Great Dividing Range

1040 Train arrives at Clifton Railway Station. Alight and walk the town and have lunch at a local café or various hotels. At Clifton you will have the opportunity to wander through the many stalls and activities and join in the festivities of “Country Week” or have a look at the Clifton Cinema, still operating and showcasing bygone days, visit the gift shops before heading off to your lunch

After morning tea on Stanthorpe Railway Station (included in the price) we depart for Ballandean. View wineries, highland country fauna and flora, orchards and hugh boulders.

Arrive at Ballandean and take a 15minute bus ride to the Wallangarra Railway Station. Lunch on the platform (included in the price) the depart by bus for a tour of the Girraween National Park (included in the price) ending at the Stanthorpe Railway Station.

We then depart Stanthorpe by train making our way back down the range with a setting sun before we arrive back in Warwick around 6.00pm.

1600 Train leaves Miles and returns to Chinchilla

1730 Bus to the motel

DAY 3 Sunday 14th September

0630 Bus to your breakfast in Chinchilla

0800 Tour of a great local historical museum

0845 Bus to Chinchilla Railway Station – all aboard

0900 Train departs Chinchilla

1100 Arrive Dalby

1115 Lunch on Dalby Railway Station (included in ticket price)

1230 Depart Dalby

1500 Arrive Toowoomba – guests and baggage unloaded.

1. If you have a dietary reqjuirement of a medical nature please advise us by email events@downsexplorer.org.au no later than 7 days prior to departure. It is difficult to accommodate special requests on the day of travel

2. If you would like to sit with friends/passengers who have not booked in your group please email your request to events@downsexplorer.org.au

3. Bedding requirements please advise by email events@downsexplorer.org.au your request and we will endeavour to meet your request

SDSR makes every endeavour to ensure that tours operate as advertised. Unfortunately, this may not always be possible owing to unforeseen circumstances such as total fire bans or mechanical failures. In such events we reserve the right to make whatever changes are necessary, without compensation. However, any changes made will only be after we have exhausted all reasonable efforts to provide the tour as advertised.

Where steam is unavailable, SDSR will replace it with a Diesel Locomotive.

Times shown on brochures are subject to approval of the relevant authorities and could differ on the day. Correct times will be advised on your tickets or by special email. Refunds will not be given for last minute variations to timetables caused by events outside the control of SDSR.

Some services may cancel at short notice.
