0830 Arrive at Warwick Railway Station Brosnan Crescent, Warwick QLD. Free parking is available. You will be allocated a railway carriage and seat. Toilets are available on the platform.

0900 Train departs from Warwick Railway Station.

1040 Train arrives at Clifton Railway Station. Alight and walk the town and have lunch at a local café or various hotels (own expense)

1345Please be at the Clifton Station platform and take your allocated seat on the train.

1400 Train departs Clifton Railway Station.

1530 Train arrives at the Warwick Railway Station.

DETAILS

Depart Warwick Station at 08:00am for a leisurely day on the heritage train.

After easing into the uphill sections between Warwick (1,492ft), and Silverwood (1,913ft), we leave civilisation and wind up past sandstone ruins of Spring and Mineral Creek bridges before a short stop to check the locomotive before passing through the two tunnels on the line.

After this brief pause, it’s time to enjoy the spectacular views as we climb the Silverwood range to Dalveen where we pass The Summit (3,035ft), the highest QR station. Since leaving Warwick, we have risen 1,543 feet in the space of 32 miles. After passing The Summit we coast down into Stanthorpe for a 30 minute stop. DEpart Stanthorpe by train and explore the regions High Country. Disembark Ballandean. Bus to Wallangarra. Lunch. Bus back to Stanthorpe via the Girraween National Park (one of Australias most unique destinations).

We will depart Stanthorpe at 3.00pm to make our way back down the range with a setting sun before we arrive back in Warwick at 6.00pm.

We then depart Stanthorpe by train making our way back down the range with a setting sun before we arrive back in Warwick around 6.00pm.

$8.00/day undercover parking is available at the Neil Street Toowoomba Bus Terminal Wilson Carpark. This can be prebooked. There are closer Wilson Carparks but they are not undercover.

We recommend you drop your baggage at the station and passengers, and then travel to the carpark and walk back. Its 2 city blocks away (approx. 10 minute walk).

12:15 Stop at Dalby Railway Station for lunch (on the platform). A BBQ lunch with salad will be provided on this heritage station that was the hub of the area in days gone by.

16:45 Arrive Chinchilla, collect your luggage and load onto buses waiting. The bus will transfer you to your motel.

Dinner will be at “The Palms” restaurant in Chinchilla where you can get to know your fellow travelers over a 2 course dinner.

Day 2 – Saturday 14th June

07:00 Breakfast this morning is a buffet at “the Palms” Restaurant

08:15 Depart Chinchilla to Miles and Roma.

There is a short break at Miles station to replenish the train. You can stretch your legs and briefly have a look at the station and the small park nearby.

A boxed lunch will be served once on board again and heading to Roma.

15:30 Arrive Roma, collect your bags from the train and load on buses waiting for you to transfer you to your motel.

Dinner is to be at “The Big Rig Tourist Centre” in Roma. Following dinner, a stargazing session will be undertaken. Experience the Under the Stars night show at the Big Rig tourist centre where you will see “The Southern Cross”, “The Saucepan” and other constellations.

Following the show you will be taken back to your motel for a good night’s sleep.

Day 3 – Sunday 15th June

06:30 Breakfast

Tour of the Big Rig Tourist Park complex, followed by a bus tour around Roma

10:30 Depart Roma Station by bus for Toowoomba, arriving mid afternoon

Note: some wineries may charge a tasting fee. This is usually refunded on purchase of their product. This is not included in your ticket price.

The coach will return in time for a train departure from Stanthorpe Station at 3:30pm for a trip back down to Warwick as the sun sets, arriving at approximately 6:30pm.

Lunch is included as a part of the winery tour package.

Please plan to arrive at the Warwick Railway Station, Brosnan Cres, Warwick at least 30 minutes before departure.

Relevant Travel Details:

  • A kiosk selling tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages and snacks is available on the train. Although we have eftpos available, we do pass through some black spots. Please have cash available for this if necessary. We also have raffle tickets on the train, cash sale only.

We make every endeavor to ensure that the tour will operate as advertised. Unfortunately, this may not always be possible owing to unforeseen circumstances such as total fire bans or mechanical failures. In such events we reserve the right to make whatever changes are necessary, without compensation. However, any changes made will only be after we have exhausted all reasonable efforts to provide the tour as advertised.

  • Where steam is unavailable, SDSR will replace it with the Heritage Diesel Locomotive.
  • Some services may cancel at short notice. You will be notified by email and refunded automatically (in most cases).

If you would like to sit in a carriage with friends that have booked tickets separately from you, email events@downsexplorer.org.au at least a week prior to your tour to let us know the name the tickets were booked in, trip details and order number. If you do not let us know, you may be seated in separate carriages.
